For a cheap cover I like letting volunteer wheat grow back along with radish spread/planted in. Radishs can be had for $1-2/lb so your seed cost is pretty low.My last bean year I planted then mid June. My tenant is strip till. So far there's not been any erosion problems (in 7 years) and his planting is very timely because the strips warm and dry early. I used to do that planting alfalfa with a JD Van Brunt drill. I let the oats nurse crop go down the seed tube but let the alfalfa spill without a seed tube to the opener path.Have been doing it a couple years. Cover crop is a triticale blend planted in the fall. Strip till in March and plant late April/early May. Some years cover has more growth. Haven't noticed a significant cover stand reduction. Martinsville, Ohio. You arethinking out of the box, that is good. The easiest going to soybeans is rye. Rye oats or rye wheat for a quicker greenup and sustained until planting time.You will be just fine with a 4wd. Planted with an articulated 9220 on a 16 row and 24 row and now a 9360R with a 24 row. We have serious hills also and would be afraid to go back to a mfwd. Cheating on a sidehill is no different with an articulated tractor.
