Dec 21, 2020 · If not dying, TiVo is definitely evolving - and will have to be to keep up with the rapidly evolving tv marketplace. The entire concept of "time-shifting" has changed. I'm not saying DVRs are obsolete, but they're no longer considered essential since streaming and VOD have become so widely available and accessible.With TiVo you can skip entire commercial breaks with the push of a button. No more waiting for your recorded show to resume or fumbling to fast-forward through the breaks. SkipMode works with the top 20 live TV channels, including ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and many more. With TiVo, watching commercials is a thing of the past.I’ve seen numerous threads here in the Community in recent weeks that discuss alternatives to TiVo, especially common now that some cable companies are dropping their support for cable cards. No major QAM cable provider is “dropping support” for cards. Spectrum may be refusing to issue new cards to new customers.I have two Tivo HD's with Comcast M-Cards. About a month ago I received a message from TIVO that I got new channels on one my Basement TIVO HD (Spike HD, Speed HD, Fox News HD). The channels where available with all the guide information. It has been over a month and the TIVO HD on the 1st Floor has not been updated with the new channels.I'm not saying Tivo Desktop is the best way to do what you are trying to do, just that I know it still works with a Series 2.
