My block, which supposedly is a 427 SO, has the stamp 427-66. It also has a "X" in the lifter valley. No other date codes are evident. I think I saw some where that perhaps the "X" indicated high nickel, but I can't confirm this. That is where a serial number would be if there was one. I think they will fit on an FE in a '57 Ford frame. The first link below says no, the second leaves some question. The main questions would be IS it a 428, and is the bore good, or a worn out overbore that can't go any further. You can check the stroke. If it's the 3.98 it's either the 428 or the 410, which wouldn't be a bad thing.There are actually at least 3 versions of FE heads with that same casting number.
