Can't see why it wouldn't because the main housing of the early H55F is the same as the four speed in the same time period. Figure the difference in insulator had to do with the height off the engine. The transmission hump inspection cover is the big question.A 2FE would be that much better. In this country the 3FE got emasculated by the A440 transmission but with a 5 speed it's very acceptable. An added benefit is that the 3FE passes smog easily, while with the 2F it is always chancy. With regards to the H55f 5 speed, it is basically a bolt up to the 3FE.The symptoms suggest there is no mechanical link between the engine and transmission, which explains why you can shift freely with the engine spinning. The …If you look down the hole where the shift lever goes you should see what looks like a square box when all of the shift rods/hence shift forks are in the neutral position. There is a pin that sticks out into the ‘square box’ for the reverse rail.
