I've got a luber for the cable and you put it where the cable goes into the tranny. Then just use a grease gun to lube it. If you use a synthetic grease you'll have no porblem with it.Nova_Guy. The cable on mine was packed with nasty crap after 40 years of being in the car. On mine I used WD-40 to spray into it and loosen the grime that had built up in the cable. I spun the cable with a cordless drill and sprayed the WD inthe the cable while it spun and I worked the cable in and out. After a couple of minutes a really nasty ...If you want to do the most thorough job, you will disengage the cable at the transmission, pull the cable out of the flex jacket and lube the entire length with the lube of your choice. Once that is done, re-insert it and you're done. Otherwise, a flowable lube from the speedometer end down may do the trick, but probably not as effective. I was taught to grease cables the same way
